Chautauqua Opera Guild Apprentice Artist Awards


JENNIFER HARRIS, Soprano, holds both a Bachelor and Master Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan. She has performed with Knoxville Opera, Center City Opera Theater, Seagle Music Colony and Miami Lyric Opera. Ms. Harris was a finalist in the Bel Canto Scholarship Foundation and a top award recipient from the Arleen Auger Memorial Fund. As a Chautauqua Opera Apprentice Artist this season, Ms. Harris sang the role of Clotilda in Norma and was a featured soloist with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.






WILLIAM DAVENPORT, Tenor, earned his Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Conservatory. In addition to his work as an Apprentice Artist this season, Mr. Davenport has performed with Glimmerglass Opera, Maryland Concert Opera, Concert Artists of Baltimore and Chesapeake Concert Opera. He received the first prize in the National Association of Teachers of Singers District Competition in 2007. This season as an Apprentice Artist, Mr. Davenport performed the role of Flavio in Norma and was a featured soloist with the Chatuauqua Symphony Orchestra.







Chautauqua Opera Guild Studio Artist Awards


VICTORIA VARGAS, Mezzo-soprano, holds a Bachelor of Music from SUNY Fredonia and a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music. She received an Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Four City District. Ms. Vargas has performed with Ash Lawn Opera, Prelude to Performance and Sarasota Opera. As a Studio Artist this season, Ms. Vargas was featured in the musical theater revue, "Bernstein's New York". Ms. Vargas has been invited to return next season as an Apprentice in the Young Artist Program.







JENNIFER FEINSTEIN, Mezzo-soprano, received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University, she is also a candidate for her Master of Music from Yale University Opera Studio. In addition to her work as a Studio Artist this season, Ms. Feinstein was a Studio Artist in 2007 as well. She has performed with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Indianapolis Opera and Music Academy of the West. Ms. Feinstein was a National Semi-Finalist int he Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; she also was a recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Marilyn Horne Foundation. This season as a Studio Artist, Ms. Feinstein sang the role of Lola in Rustic Chivalry (Cavalleria Rusticana) and was featured in the musical theater revue, "Changing Partners: Waiting For You".

ANDREA ARIAS-MARTIN, Soprano, received her Bachelor of Music from C.W. Post/Long Island University and her Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music. She has performed with American Opera Projects, Prelude to Performance, Oberlin in Italy and Chautauqua Institution's Voice Program. In addition to this season, Ms. Arias-Martin was also a Studio Artist in 2009. Ms. Arias-Martin was featured in the musical theater revue, "Bernstein's New York".





CASEY CANDEBAT, Tenor, holds a Bachelor of Music from Loyola University New Orleans and is currently pursuing his graduate studies at Northwestern University. He has performed with New Orleans Opera Association, Opera North and Music@Madewood Festival. Mr. Candebat was also a Studio Artist in 2009 and was featured this season in the musical theater revue, "Bernstein's New York".










JOHN MCCARTHY, Baritone, earned his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Temple University and will be beginning his graduate studies at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music this fall. He has performed with Lake George Opera, Opera Delaware and Chautauqua Institution's Voice Program. Mr. McCarthy received an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan National Council Auditions and this season as a Studio Artist at Chautauqua Opera was featured in the musical theater revue, "Bernstein's New York".





MARIA MCDANIEL, Mezzo-soprano, holds a Bachelor of Music from Millikin University and a Master of Music from Georgia State University. She has performed with Atlanta Opera and Peachtree Modern Opera. Ms. McDaniel was a Finalist in the Southeastern Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a Finalist in the National Opera Association Competition and a Grand Prize Gold Medalist in the 2010 American Traditions Competition. In addition, Ms. McDaniel was a Chautauqua Opera Studio Artist in 2008. This season as an Apprentice Artist, Ms. McDaniel sang the role of Mama Lucia in Rustic Chivalry (Cavalleria Rusticana) and was a featured soloist with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.



TAYLOR JOHNSON, Soprano, received her Bachelor of Music from Converse College and her Master of Music from Florida State University. She has performed with Opera Festival di Roma and was the Southeast Award Winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Ms. Johnson was also awarded a scholarship from the Tallahassee Music Guild, second place in the Leontyne Price Emerging Young Artist Competition and a Semi-Finalist in the Palm Beach Young Artist Competition. As a Studio Artist this season, Ms. Johnson was featured in the musical theater revue, "Bernstein's New York".





ADAM ULRICH, Tenor, earned his Bachelor of Art in Music from SUNY Geneseo and his Master of Music at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute. He has performed with Central City Opera, Piedmont Opera, Mercury Opera Rochester, Janiec Opera Company and Opera Colorado. As a Studio Artist this season, Mr. Ulrich was featured in the musical theater revue, "Changing Partners: Waiting For You".






Toni and Joe Goldfarb Young Artist Award


WILLIAM DWYER, Tenor, holds a Bachelor of Music from Illinois Wesleyan University and is currently pursuing his Master of Music from Northwestern University. Mr. Dwyer has performed with Universitaet Wien, Kunst Ohne Grenzen in Vienna, Austria and Prairie Fire Opera Theatre. As a Studio Artist this season, Mr. Dwyer was featured in the musical theater revue, "Changing Partners: Waiting For You".
